Eye Wrinkles and Dark Under Eyes. One, Two Punch.

Monday, April 27th, 2009

I looked in the mirror and now in addition to my perpetually dark under eyes issue, I now am developing eye wrinkles.Just great!

I’m looking for solutions that will address both at the same time. Sort of like that drug that works on high blood pressure and cholesterol all at once.

What upsets me is that I thought I was winning the age battle and now this. How frustrating is  to wake up and discover another challenge old man time is throwing your way.

I promise you this, when I find a solution, I’ll let you know.

The Proces Women Are Using To Look Younger Without Surgery

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

I don’t think I’ve ever talked with anyone who has gone through a cosmetic surgical procedure and can’t wait until the next time they can do it again. The process is painful, and often doesn’t always work as well as the doctor suggests it will, but what other options do you have?

That’s a very good question, and one looking into as more women are starting to realize there are natural face lift alternatives they can do before they go under the knife or get some harsh chemical procedure done to their skin. There are quite a few of these natural treatments you can look into before you sign up for a surgical procedure.

What are your Natural Face Lift Alternatives?

Using face exercise, frequent movements of the face in repetition, help to tone and strengthen facial muscles, which improve the appearance of sagging skin around the eyes. The concept is that you can strengthen and tone your skin through facial movements that are repeated several times each day.

There are women who praise this natural method of lifting their face and those that think it’s nothing more then a scam.

Wrinkle creams have been in huge demand for more then the last 10 years. Primarily this is because we have an aging population that is becoming more affluent and demands immediate results. The flip side to using wrinkle creams is that most of them don’t produce fast if any results.

Before you spend any money on natural face lift products be sure you do some research first. Many anti aging gadgets and wrinkle creams are capable of hiding the appearance of dark eye circles and wrinkles in only minutes. This is how they entice you to purchase their product. You buy into the product believing you’ll see fast and big results, how ever in the end it doesn’t end up happening.

To ensure you don’t buy a product that doesn’t work spend some time reading consumer reviews and testimonials. It might take a bit of time but it will be well worth it to ensure you buy a product that makes a difference.

Retinol And Anti-Aging Products

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

There is some debate as to whether or not Retinol, a derivative of vitamin A, is an effective ingredient in anti-aging products.

Some research suggests it is very powerful as an anti-wrinkle solution but for other aging issues, there is little evidence that shows it helps fight aging skin.

One study done by the University of Michigan found it helped participants over a course of six months but only in treating wrinkles. But if you also have dark under eyes or puffy eyes, then products that contain Retinol may not be the best for you.

Chances are while looking in the mirror this morning, you may have thought to yourself, “It would be nice to finally find an anti-aging product that gets rid of the dark area under my eyes.”

The number of products out there keeps growing by the hundreds. It’s overwhelming. I’ve often walked down the beauty aisle at Walgreens just blankly staring at the shelves hoping for the right product to jump out at me.

Before You Decide On Botox

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

There’s a few things you should know before you decide to proceed with a Botox treatment. Keep in mind there is a myriad of other ways to treat dark under eyes and dark circles that are much safer.

Primarily, the FDA has warned that Botox injections have lead to serious respiratory problems and numbness/loss of expressiveness in the face.

Other conditions caused by local injections of Botox, or botulinum toxin, include: dysphagia, dysphonia, dyspnea and overall weakness.

Side effects from this procedure have been reported from one day to several weeks after the procedure occurred.

The FDA recommends that all health care professionals provide their patients with accurate information regarding side effects and other symptoms related botulism.

The consequences of choosing Botox can be extremely dire so before you decide on a treatment for your wrinkles and dark circles, please seek alternative methods. Simply because one Botox procedure worked for one of your friends does not mean it will work for you. Consult a dermatologist to more accurately find a solution that’s right for you.

List of proven ingredients in eye creams

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Here is a continued perspective on common ingredients used in under eye creams. If you suffer from dark shadows or circles under your eyes, then you probably find products out there with many of these ingredients in them. There are many more out there so I will update occasionally as I get more current information.

Sea Buckthorn

A popular ingredient used throughout the world for healing skin such as that affected by Rosacea but has also been found to be very beneficial for anti aging. It is loaded with vitamins and nutrients to help feed dry or aging skin and combats wrinkles and dryness.

Oils

Certain oils with a high percentage of essential fatty acids have been found to work very well on mature, dry or damaged skin. Borage, Evening Primrose and Almond oil have all been found to be effective anti aging ingredients.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are popular anti aging ingredients added to skin care products. Quite a few different essential oils have been used for years for their rejuvenating and restorative effects on aging skin. Sandalwood, Geranium, Frankincense, Rose and Neroli are often found in anti aging creams and serums.

Purity and freshness are important when purchasing products with essential oils.

Shea Butter

Has been found not only to moisturize and eliminate rough dry skin which makes many wrinkles less noticeable, it is believed to help improve skin tone and elasticity. A high concentration of at least 20% shea butter is the most beneficial. Unrefined shea is the best choice as it still retains a high level of vitamins and nutrients.

While many of these anti aging ingredients have been known to work on lines and wrinkles, sagging skin seems to be more of an issue that makes us feel like we look older. Some of the ingredients above show promise in this area and offer some firming and toning.

More ingredients for your eye creams

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

To continue the discussion on the last post, here are some more ingredients that are helpful in treating dark circles and shadows under your eyes:

DMAE

Is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies and is also present in fish.  It has been found to provide firmness to sagging skin.

Ellagic Acid

Anti oxidant rich ellagic acid is found in raspberries, cranberries, pomegranates etc. Pomegranate in particular is being studied for it’s effectiveness on aging skin. It is believed to have the ability to achieve moderate thickening of the epidermis, improve elasticity and collagen.

Green Tea

While this antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredient needs more research, studies have shown that green tea has some ability to provide sun protection. It is being used in more products all the time. It shows promise as a natural way to slow the effects of aging and is quickly becoming one of the most popular of the anti aging ingredients.

Hyaluronic Acid

This natural ingredient is very important for helping our skin hold more water and some studies show it may help to stimulate the growth of healthy skin cells. Hydrated skin is smoother, softer and plumper looking.

There are still more to come but in the meantime, leave a comment to let me know if you found this information helpful.

What are those ingredients on the label?

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Ever looked at the labels on the back of those skin care products you use for the dark under your eyes? Most of these I can’t even pronounce but I recently discovered what these ingredients actually do. You’ll be surprised when you read where these synthetic mixtures come from.

Alpha-Hydroxy Acids(AHA’s)

Commonly seen as glycolic acid from sugar cane, lactic acid from dairy products, tartaric acid from grapes, malic acid from fruit and citric acid from citrus fruits and antioxidant ellagic acid from raspberries, cranberries, and pomegranates etc. These anti aging ingredients are commonly used for their exfoliating properties. They also provide a skin tightening effect that diminishes fine lines.

The FDA has set guidelines for safe use of this product at concentrations of 10% or less which is the highest concentration available by consumers and PH of at least 3.5%. Higher concentrations are available through skin care specialists. Best for dry to normal skin types, use also requires a good sunscreen due to increased sun sensitivity.

Beta Hydroxy Acids (Salicylic Acid)

An acid that comes from willow bark, this ingredient is for those with sensitive skin and since it has the ability to penetrate deeply is good for oily or acne prone skin. It offers the same exfoliating qualities along with the ability to unclog pores.

Co Q 10 (Ubiquinone)

This antioxidant may help repair skin damaged by the elements and improve collagen. The levels of CoQ10 in our bodies lessen with age causing our skin to suffer more damage and decreased elasticity. CoQ10 creams may repair some of this damage as it has the ability to easily penetrate skin cells.

There are tons of ingredients out there so I will address a few more in my next post.
